The Animal Show -
A Puppet Show
Showtime 4/27/2011 2pm and 7pm

Luke had this idea today when Paige went down for her nap. He wanted to do a puppet show.
He was very creative about the whole thing.
First, he said he needed a stage and went rummaging through the recycling bins to find a fitting stage. Then he pulled out the crayons and started coloring it. You can't see but there is a tree and a bald man as his backdrop on the stage because...doesn't every play need a bald man? and Luke informed me this week that he wants to be bald and he likes bald people but, I digress.
Then, he said he needed a curtain. So we settled on paper towels and straws. Very classy!
I showed him how we would make the puppets (unfortunately, daddy doesn't have too many lunch bags left). He was very particular as to which animals he wanted in his play. A rhino, a cheetah (surprise, surprise!), a zebra (because Paige likes them) and a tiger.
He named the play "The Animal Show"
The cutest part of the whole thing what the tremendous effort that went into setting up the room. He did the whole thing. Everyone had assigned seats (even his friends who weren't there) and he put waters out to drink and a couple toys at each seat specific to the person who was to sit there.
Once the "theater" was set, he decided on a story line.
THE SCREENPLAY: The rhino was playing with his friend the zebra. Zebra got called to dinner by his mommy and the rhino got lost in the jungle. He happened upon the tiger. He did not want to ask the tiger how he could get home because he was scared of the tiger. The cheetah told the rhino not to be scared of the tiger. So he asked the tiger if he knew where is house was. The tiger told him and he found his way home to his mommy and daddy. THE END!
A thriller till the end!! I told him that surely Hollywood would come knocking any day now.
He practiced his play on Paige after she woke up from her nap and was SO excited to do the play for daddy after work.

Easter at the Club -
This year, we had everyone down for Easter brunch at the club. They had a Easter egg hunt for the kids which they all loved (Chase I think coming in with the most eggs!). The Easter bunny (or bunnette -her pony tail was hanging out..he he) made an appearance. Paige was ALL about the Easter bunny. She kept going up and hugging the bunny (half the time stepping into other pictures w the bunny). Lots and Lots of hugging.
Madison was very sweet, helping Paige find eggs, giving up some of her own precious egg hunting time to make sure her little cousin had a few eggs in her basket.
Apparently all that hunting made the kids very hungry, they were ready for brunch. Luke was literally knocking on the door of the dining room to get his signature waffles and whipped cream, not the best of options but at the club it is a must for Luke.

Easter Morning -
The Easter bunny had this idea to take all Paige's binkies while he was in the house leaving the baskets. This all seemed well and good until 5am when Paige did her usual "I NEED BINKY". Sticking with the plan I tried to calm her and tell her the bunny needed to take them for OTHER babies. We had rehearsed this for weeks. She knew this was the deal and seamed on board, even telling strangers "the easter bunny will take my binkies for some babies and leave me candies!"
So needless to say, we were up at 5am. I felt so bad for the poor thing, she was so upset. She is trying to be brave, through the tears she says "the bunny hopped away with my binky, that silly" but when push comes to shove and she's in that crib at bedtime...gonna be a different story.
Day 1 is just coming to a close but if I had to guess, I'd say we are in for a long night...
Aside from binky drama, it was a great Easter morning as usual.
Leaving a carrot out the night before -
After he came -
Lots and Lots of goodies -

So excited -
Luke got new goggles (or gobbles if you're Luke) -

Breakfast -
Today, Paige and I came downstairs. Luke was in the kitchen rummaging around (never a good thing). But this time he was surprising Paige with some breakfast. He made us stay in the living room and NOT LOOK for 10min (seemed like longer) until he was done. He had two kinds of cereal all put out in bowls, a granola bar and milk. Not a particularly well rounded breakfast but not bad either for a 4 year old. He was so cute showing Paige her breakfast when it was ready.

Famliy Fun Day -ZOO!
Jay and I took the day off work Friday and headed with the kids to the Roger Williams Zoo in Providence. Kids loved it. They love "our" zoo in New Bedford but it is nice to have a change of scenery once in a while.

Luke LOVED taking his Cheetah around with him for the day. They didn't have any Cheetah's but we did see a white lion which we talked up a ton, hoping it would do...it did!
Paige fell in love with the Cardi's Furniture guys. Specifically the blue guy. She kept running up to him "I LOVE YOU!!" and hugging him. I think he was totally freaked out.

Stopping for a snack break

We sort of fell into a play...Paige was a unicorn and Luke was....of all things a Cheetah!

Easter Activities -
Coloring Easter eggs is always an adventure. Luke managed to get his thumb sucking hand completely stained in blue dye. I tried and tried to get it off. No luck. He later went down for a nap and sucked that sucker clean. His tongue was blue when he woke up. I'm going to go out on a limb and say this was probably not the best thing for him to ingest. Luke, if you grow a third eye sometime down the line, we'll know why.
Paige on the other hand, is like a bull in a china shop. She slams the eggs down. Her break rate was about 68% of the eggs she handled.

Loved opening our baskets from Grandma and Grandpa. Luke got a cheetah, which is his fav and Paige a Hello Kitty case.

Chicken
Luke is a picky eater. He has, however, gotten much better in the last few months. Protein sources..meat, etc.. have always been a struggle. He does like chicken.
SO, we've discovered some NEW types of chicken for mealtime in the Peabody household:
What we tell Luke ~ What it actually is
Chicken ~ Regular everyday chicken
Dark Meat Chicken ~ Duck (yes, we've tried duck for dinner lately)
Brown Chicken ~ Beef
Pink Chicken ~ Salmon
This is about as far as we've gotten so far. It is working. He actually eats the stuff. The possibilities are endless:
White Chicken ~ White Fish
Tan Chicken ~ Pork
Green Chicken Legs ~ Green Beans...OK maybe a stretch but you know I'll try it.
